ABET Accredited Master of Computer Science???

Hello forum! So, I have decided to get a Master in Computer Science degree and I was wondering what your thoughts are on ABET accreditation (ABET | Accrediting College Programs in Applied Science, Computing, Engineering and Technology). The university that I am looking at is SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) accredited, but the program is not with ABET. In speaking with the school, they told me that the degree program is SACS accredited.

Will graduating from this program without ABET accreditation affect me negatively in gaining employment with companies? Please give me your insight. Thanks! :confused:

What is difference between software engineering or software design?

I am looking at 2 different online programs. One is software engineering and the other is called software designing. Is there any difference? Any help would be highly appreciated.

We are back with one more Awesome Interview of our respected CEans, He is CEan - Bioramani Sir,who has completed his 72 springs; we wish him a very good health. He has joined us in April 2011 and posted the valuable threads by which we are very thankful to him .
He Graduated from the last batch B.Sc.(Hons.) Chem. Tech., Andhra UniVarsity, 1960. Since then he is in teaching/research in Multidisciplinary areas of Engineering. And Since 1981 in Biomedical Technology. He is passionate about Astronomy, Bonsai, Classical Music, Environment, Gardening, Photography, Reading, Teaching, Yoga. And one more thing is he is the man who suggested our CEans to participate in the "Create the future contest". CE:Hi Sir, you are a Crazy BioMedical engineer. Tell us more about yourself
Bioaramani : I graduated as a Chemical Engineer with specialization in Electro Chemical Technology. All of which is useful in Biomedical Engineering. However, that is not the only area I work in.


CE:How did you get introduced to CrazyEngineers (CE)? What was your first impression?
Bioaramani :: I was searching some thing on robotics and noticed an entry from CE. The name intrigued me and I visited the site. First impression: 'Am I crazy enough to register here?'


CE:Why did you take up this particular engineering trade? What do you like the most about it?
Bioaramani : I did not. I was invited to join.


CE:What were the most memorable moments from your college days?
Bioaramani : Some good some not. In the chemistry lab the flask of boiling concentrated sulphuric acid I was working on exploded. Fortunately I had turned my head and did not become blind. I carry the scars still from 1957.
The new swimming pool of the university was waiting inordinately for the state governor to inaugurate. A few of us instigated by me climbed the wall and I (a non swimmer) took the first dive in the deep end. I was pulled out and resuscitated before I drowned.
A cheetah from the surrounding forest once strayed into the campus. I was watching a game of cricket. My room mate (a University player) hit a six and the ball fell into a deep storm water drain into which I clambered to retrieve the ball, picked it and looked up into the eyes of the cheetah a few yards down the drain. Both took off at top speed in opposite directions.
No self respecting male will be called Ramani in Andhra. (My mother wanted a daughter and gave me a unisex name) My degree certificate was issued to Miss Ramani. I had major trouble getting it changed.


CE:You are B.Sc (Hons) Chemical Technology and have a total of 40 years of experience in teaching, guiding academic research, technology development, plant design and project and research management. There is no better person to ask this question. What message do you have for the budding and future engineers?
Bioaramani :I do not advise and am certainly no messiah. Life will be miserable if one does not enjoy work. Have hands on fun in all things is my philosophy.



CE:A lot of CEans would be interested in developing projects under your guidance. What projects will you be interested in if CEans get such an opportunity?
Bioaramani :You give me too much credit. I can take part in any multidisciplinary activity. I am sure many of you are watching the Design the Future contest where CEans are taking part. Any such activity will be of interest. I am always willing to help in any student activity that is within my ambit.


CE:What is your favorite pass time?
Bioaramani :Gardening, listening to classical music, reading.


CE:Who have been your role models, mentors, or other inspiration for you, both in your personal life and public figures?
Bioaramani :Thomas Alwa Edison


CE:What is the biggest achievement in your life so far?
Bioaramani :Avoiding ambition.


CE:What are you working on at this moment?
Bioaramani :Some advanced cardio vascular devices.


CE: Do you think that engineering in India covers the creative aspect of an individual?
Bioaramani :I am afraid not.


CE:You have been practising hata yoga since you are 10. What are the benefits of hata-yoga?
Bioaramani :General well being. One has to remember that this was developed by yogis, who had atrocious eating (fasting?) habits and did not want their bodies to interfere with their main goal of spiritual practice. If this kept them going it should certainly help us.


CE:Can you give a few suggestions to make CE a better place for Engineers?
Bioaramani :Leave well alone would be my suggestion. It will evolve on its own.

6. What are the most three essential things required for a person to be successful in his life?
Bioaramani :Interest in work, integrity and not caring about success.

7. Tell us one thing that you always wanted to do but you haven't been able to do
till now?
Bioaramani :I wanted to be a test pilot.

8. You love reading science fiction and philosophy. What interests you in them?
Bioaramani :Sci Fi fires the imagination. Philosophy is the never ending search for:'Who am I?

9. A moment you can never forget.
Bioaramani :I asked my colleague in 1969,'Will you be my fair lady?' and she laughed
non stop. The 42nd wedding anniversary comes up in November. So I have the
last laugh.

10. If you were a politician, what will your 5 year plan look like?
Bioaramani :Sustainable, environment friendly technologies for ordinary living for all.

11. What is your favorite section in CE?
Bioaramani :The Fora.

12. Imagine this- you are given 24 hours and a choice to choose any role, any
profession and any resources (including money) in the world. What will you do
with it and why?
Bioaramani :I pass. I am content as I am.

13. Photography is one of your hobbies. Can you please share some of your best
pictures?
Bioaramani : Mine were the days of B/W film cameras. I used to develop, print and enlarge my own.
None are in digital format.

14. If you were given a chance to be a one day admin of CE....
Bioaramani : I will gladly leave it to Big K.

15. Tell us any 3 things that annoy you the most?
Bioaramani : Long winded explanations for trivial things, refusing to face facts and fudging data.

16. Define yourself in one word.
Bioaramani : Ordinary

17. What do you like the most in yourself?
Bioaramani : Lack of ambition.


18. What if you got 1 Crore in the lottery...
Bioaramani : Lottery, where one gains without giving anything in return, is anathema to me.
However, to answer: I will gift it to my grand daughter to get into a good school.

19. What changes you found in yourself before and after joining CE?
Bioaramani : Nothing really.


20. If you were given a chance to take a role in CE, what would you like to be and what would you do for CE?
Bioaramani : Advisory. You can then be an idiot and look wise.

Hello people,
Today I was just going through the different channels on TV.I stopped at a news channel to get updated,but it just got me on nerves when I found that i wasted like 5-10 minutes for the commercials to get over and finally to find out that I was waiting for a comedy show which just came up.The news which should be their main focus was just scrolling down like its shouting "read me or I am going away really fast".
I know thats not the case with all the news channel but its true for most of them.

They have the power but why are they wasting it,they can change people's attitude by producing decent and informative programs but reality is something totally different.

Whats your say?

Which IT Company in India has the toughest recruitment process?

I have heard a lot about how some companies have very tough aptitude tests, while others have very difficult technical interview rounds?

From what I know best, Google's recruitment process must be really tough to crack, because they take only the engineers with 'real' talent.

Could some engineers with experience share their views about which IT Companies in India are difficult to get in than others? :|

Final Year Engineering Project: Geo-Targeted Advertising

Geo-targeted advertising is a concept used by many leading advertisement serving providers. The concept revolves around providing location aware advertisements to the user. That means, if your website visitor is from USA, the system should pick up advertisements targeted at US visitors. If your visitor is from Malaysia, then the system should deliver advertisement specifically targeted for Malaysian users.

The overall setup would be like this -

1. The central server accepts advertisements in the form of image banners of specific size.
2. The advertiser specifies the location which he intends to target.
3. Advertiser also specifies how long he wants the advertisement to be displayed, how many visitors and other factors.
4. The system provides a login to publisher as well.
5. Once the publisher creates account, he/she is presented with a small snippet of code which can be embedded in any site.
6. The code snippet will determine the website's visitor's location using IP address or other mechanisms and deliver the relevant advertisement.

The whole model can be deployed in a small network of computers. :) If you need help in developing this idea further, ask your specific questions in this thread. :)

The rain was drumming on the car roof as George & Marie Winston drove through the empty country roads towards the house of their friends, the Harrison's, where they were going to attend a party to celebrate the engagement of the Harrison's daughter, Lisa. As they drove, they listened to the local radio station, which was playing classical music. They were about 5 miles from the destination when the music on the radio was interrupted by a news announcement: "The Cheshire police have issued a serious warning after a man escaped from Colford Mental Hospital earlier this evening. The man, John Downey, is murderer who killed 6 people before he was captured 2 years ago. He is described as large, very strong & extremely dangerous. People in the Cheshire area are warned to keep their doors & windows locked, & to call the police immediately if they se anyone acting strangely." Marie shivered, "A crazy killer. And he's out there somewhere. That's scary." Don't worry about it," said her husband. "We're nearly there now. Anyway, we have more important things to worry about. This car is losing power for some reason—it must be that old problem with the carburetor, If it gets any worse, we'll have to stay at the Harrison's' tonight & get it fixed before we travel back tomorrow," As he spoke, the car began to slow down, George pressed the accelerator, but the engine only coughed. Finally they rolled to a halt, as the engine died completely, Just as they stopped, George pulled the car off the road, & it came to rest under a large tree. "Blast!" said George angrily. "Now we'll have to walk in the rain." "But that'll take us an hour at least," said Marie. "And I have my high-held shoes & my nice clothes on. They'll be ruined!" "Well, you'll have to wait while I run to the nearest house & call the Harissons. Someone can come out & picks us up," said George. "But George! Have you forgotten what the radio said? There's a homicidal maniac out there! You can't leave me alone here!" "You'll have to hide in the back of the car. Lock all the doors & lie on the floor in the back, under this blanket. No-one will see you, when I come back, I'll knock 3 times on the door. Then you can get up & open it. Don't open it unless you here 3 knocks." George opened the door & slipped out into the rain. He quickly disappeared into the blackness. Marie quickly locked the doors & settled down under the blanket in the back for a long wait. She was frightened & worried, but she was a strong-minded woman. She had not been waiting long, however, when she heard a strange scratching noise. It seemed to be coming from the roof of the car. Marie was terrified. She listened, holding her breath. Then she heard 3 slow knocks, one after the other, also on the roof of the car. Was it her husband? Should she open the door? Then she heard another knock, and another. This was not her husband. It was somebody--or something--else. She was shaking with fear. But she forced herself to lie still. The knocking continued-- bump, bump, bump, bump many hours later, as the sun rose, she was still lying there. She had not slept for a moment. The knocking had never stopped, all night long. She did not know what to do. Where was George? Why had he not come for her?
Suddenly, she heard the sound of 3 or 4 vehicles, racing quickly down the road. All of them pulled up around her, their tires screeching on the road. At last! Some one had come! Marie sat up quickly & looked out the window.
The 3 vehicles were all police cars, & 2 still had their lights flashing. Several policemen leap out. One of them rushed towards the car as Marie opened the door. He took her by the hand.
"Get out of the car & walk with me to the police vehicle. Miss you're safe now. Look straight ahead. Keep looking at police car. Don't look back. Just don't look back."
Something in the way he spoke filled Marie with cold horror. She could not help herself. After 10 yards from the police car, she stopped, turned & looked back at the empty vehicle.
